Lifts with a machine room are a dependable, robust answer for demanding buildings and for refurbishing and modernising existing installations. The drive and control equipment sits in a separate machine room, which gives good access to the key components.

The machine room is usually above the shaft, though depending on the building it can also sit beside it. This gives more freedom in design and often suits buildings where the machine room is already part of the existing installation.
